Shocking figures reveal one in three students opt to leave town for their education

New figures reveal almost one in three eligible primary school children did not choose either of Daventry’s secondary schools for the current academic year.

A breakdown of the choices of all 417 year six pupils from the primary feeder schools for Parker E-Act Academy and Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (DSLV) show 133 youngsters applied for – and were allocated – places at schools not in Daventry.

Southam College was the greatest beneficiary of the secondary school exodus, with 56 pupils opting for a daily trip to Warwickshire rather than an education in their closest secondary schools.

Below is a list of the destinations of 417 year six primary school pupils in September 2014:

Abbey Junior sent pupils to; Parker E-ACT Academy (6), Southam College (2), Rugby High School (1), Lawrence Sheriff School (1) Harris CofE High School (1), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (29), Ashlawn Selective (1).

Ashby Fields sent pupils to; Parker E-ACT Academy (26), Southam College (7), Rugby High School (1), Lawrence Sheriff School (1) Guilsborough School Academy Trust (6), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (12), Ashlawn School (2).

Badby sent pupils to; Parker E-ACT Academy (1), Sponne School (1), Southam College (11), Rugby High School (1), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (3), Campion School (1).

Byfield Primary sent pupils to; The Elizabeth Woodville School (1) Southam College (4), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (2), Blessed George Napier Catholic School (1).

Barby Church of England Primary School sent pupils to; Parker E-ACT Academy (7), Northampton Academy (1), Bilton High School (1).

Braunston Church of England Primary School sent pupils to; Parker E-ACT Academy (14), Sponne School (1), Southam College (6), Harris CofE High School (3), Ashlawn Selective (4), Ashlawn School (1).

Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village had one pupil withdrawn and 39 who joined the secondary section.

Falconer’s Hill Junior School sent pupils to; Weston Favell Academy (1), Parker E-ACT Academy (35) Southam College (1), Harris CofE High School (1), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (11).

Kilsby CE Primary School sent pupils to: The Parker E-ACT Academy (7), Rugby High School(1), Magdalen College School (2), Harris CofE High School (2), Guilsborough School Academy Trust (1), Ashlawn Selective (1), Ashlawn School (2).

Newnham Primary School sent pupils to; Parker E-ACT Academy (1), Southam College (5), Northampton School for Boys (1), Lawrence Sheriff School (1), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (2), Avon Valley School (1), Ashlawn School (1).

Staverton C of E Voluntary Aided Primary School sent pupils to; The Parker E-ACT Academy (4), Southam College (4), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (1), Ashlawn School(1).

The Grange School sent pupils to; Parker E-ACT Academy (11). Southam College (5), Rugby High School (1), Lawrence Sheriff School (1),Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (34), Ashlawn Selective (1), Ashlawn School (1) and 1 student with no offer base.

Welton Church of England Academy sent pupils to; Southam College (4), Rugby High School (1), Lawrence Sheriff School (2), Guilsborough School Academy Trust (4), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (3), Ashlawn School (3).

Woodford Halse C.E. School sent pupils to Southam College (7), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (30), Chenderit School, (2).

Weedon BEC sent pupils to; Magdalen College School (1), Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (30), Chenderit School (2), Campion School (13).

Below is the total number of pupils from feeder schools allocated to each secondary school:

Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village received 170 students (40.8 per cent).

The Parker E-ACT Academy received 112 students (26.9 per cent).

Southam College received 56 students.

Campion School received 14 students.

Guilsborough School Academy Trust received 11 students.

Ashlawn School received 11 students.

Harris CofE High School received 7 students.

Ashlawn Selective received 7 students.

Rugby High School received 6 students.

Lawrence Sheriff School received 6 students.

Magdalen College School received 3 students.

Chenderit School received 3 students.

Sponne School received 2 students.

The Elizabeth Woodville School (South Campus),Blessed George Napier Catholic School, Northampton Academy (Secondary), Bilton High School, Weston Favell Academy, Northampton School for Boy and Avon Valley School each received 1 student from local primary schools. One student was withdrawn, and another had no offer base.
