Residents in Crick can kickstart the new year with the launch of a brand new community sports facility.

The scheme has been funded by local homebuilder David Wilson Homes South Midlands, Sport England and Daventry District Council to build the facility off Yelvertoft Road.

The homebuilder, which is currently constructing new homes at its nearby Fallowfields development in Crick, donated £75,000 towards the provision of a new multi-use games area (MUGA) with sporting facilities for the local community.

Now completed, the new sports area features a floodlit Astroturf pitch suitable for a range of organised sports including football, hockey, netball and cricket. The MUGA is also marked out permanently for two tennis courts, designed to Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) standards.

Ian Gidley, project manager and committee member for Crick Sports Field Association, said: “We are extremely grateful to David Wilson Homes for its contribution towards our community sports fields. Without such funding we would not be able to provide these much-needed sporting facilities in Crick and we look forward to seeing them put to good use over the coming years.

“This MUGA is part of a three-tier development plan to improve the sporting facilities available to local residents in Crick. Further phases of development will provide a new cricket pitch and a pavilion with changing rooms, due to open in 2015.”

The new facility comes after years of fundraising by residents which has seen events such as the brewing of their own beer to sell.
