Those starting a new food business or wanting to improve their food hygiene rating can gain nationally recognised food safety training from Daventry District Council.

Delivered by experienced environmental health officers, who make use of practical examples to show what food safety problems can occur and what can be done to put them right, participants can achieve a Level 2 or Level 3 Award in Food Safety in Catering and gain valuable advice on how to enhance their rating.

The course programme includes food hygiene requirements, cleaning, checking food temperatures and food handling.

DDCs housing and environmental health portfolio holder cllr Richard Atterbury said: “We have seen a sharp rise in the number of food business being registered in the district over the last year, possibly due to the recession and people wanting to work for themselves.

“These courses are being provided at a lost cost and are very affordable so they meet our aim as a Council to support local businesses and the economy, while also helping to maintain high food hygiene standards to enable businesses to operate safely.”

The Level 2 course costs £61 per person or £41 for a refresher, and forthcoming dates include May 23, June 20, September 12, October 17 and November 21, as well as various dates for the Level 3 award.
