NORTHAMPTONSHIRE County Council (NCC) is working with another local authority to create a system to save both councils money.

NCC has teamed up with Cambridgeshire County Council to create a joint organisation called the LGSS.

The role of LGSS is to make local government back office work more efficiently by sharing their services.

This could see a joint IT department set up to reduce operating costs and share common problems.

Savings could be made in other areas including finance and pensions.

Cllr Chris Long, who represents Daventry West on NCC and jointly chairs the overview and scrutiny group for LGSS, said: “County councils often come in for criticism for lack of resolve to face up to and address the type of problems recorded here.

“Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire County Councils in this instance should be acknowledged for their ingenuity in trying to save money in order to preserve services.”
