Fundraisers with a sense of fun raised thousands of pounds for Cynthia Spencer Hospice on Saturday at the charity’s colour run at Castle Ashby Gardens.
Nearly 500 people took part in the event which was in its second year.
Events fundraiser for the hospice Sarah Denston said: “Last year we raised just over £17,000 and this year we are hoping to raise in excess of £20,000.”
The money will go towards the care provided at the hospice and also for its hospice at home service.
She said: “It’s a little bit messy and it’s a little bit of fun.”
Those taking part were certainly getting into the spirit of the event by making sure their pristine white T-shirts were covered in clouds of powder paint even before they set foot on the 5k course.
And as they ran, jogged or strolled through the grounds they were pelted with a rainbow of colours by the enthusiastic paint station volunteers.
The serious purpose of the day was not forgotten though with many of the runners taking part because of the care they had seen family and friends receive at the Northampton hospice.
Lynsey Blanchard and Angie Gilbert were running together on the day. Angie said: “It’s a local charity and it’s helped a lot of my friends and supported family.”
And Lynsey said: “You never know when you are going to need them.”
A much-loved mum and grandmother Tina Lincoln, who died just before Christmas in 2013, was the inspiration to take part for one family. Tina’s daughter Christina paid tribute to the support and consideration her mum and the family had received during Tina’s care at Cynthia Spencer.
She said: “It was a long journey and they were ever so nice and never rushed us.”
