Bin and recycling arrangements for the Christmas and New Year period have been announced by Daventry District Council.
As in recent years, brown wheelie bin collections, for garden waste, will be suspended from December 21 and will restart on Monday 18 January 18 to allow the crews to focus on the extra recycling.
To help people recycle, large cardboard will be collected from Boxing Day until Saturday January 9 inclusive. During that period, people with large cardboard that does not fit in their recycling box are asked to flatten it as much as possible and place it next to their boxes on their collection day.
Anyone with more recycling than their boxes can hold is asked to sort the items and place them into clear or white bags next to their boxes. People should not use black bin bags.
There will be no collections on Christmas Day, so anyone who was due a collection on that day is instead asked to put their recycling and food waste out on Sunday December 27.
Black bin, recycling and food waste collections will take place as normal for the rest of the Christmas and New Year period.
Real Christmas trees will also be taken away when garden waste collections resume district-wide from January 18 – just put your tree out next to your brown bin on your first scheduled collection day after this date.
Residents are reminded there are no longer any parish/village collection points for Christmas trees in the Daventry district. Any trees found left in public places will be treated as fly-tipping.

Councillor Jo Gilford, environment portfolio holder at Daventry District Council, said: “Christmas always creates more waste than normal. However, people across Daventry District have always embraced the challenge of recycling as much of this as possible.
“Our residents always do a great job of recycling their waste at this time of year and we’re sure they will once again join us in recycling as much as possible this Christmas.”
Anyone who is unsure of the collection schedule in their area should check the waste and recycling calendar sent out to residents across the District last December. The calendars can also be downloaded from www.daventrydc.gov.uk/recycling or ordered by calling Daventry District Council on 01327 871100.
