BUS users in Daventry now have the option of buying a weekly ticket which could help them save money on journeys.
Stagecoach introduced the Megarider ticket for services in Daventry and the surrounding villages on Saturday, the same day its general fares were increased by an average of 4.8 per cent.
The seven-day Megarider ticket enables passengers to travel around the town for £11.25, while a 28 day pass costs £35.10.
There is also a Megarider plus option which costs £16 for seven days and £51.35 for 28 days.
This ticket includes travel to and from Staverton, Braunston, Long Buckby, Weedon, Dodford, Charwelton and Badby.
Stagecoach said the rise in its general fares is down to a hike in fuel tax after the Government cut its subsidy by 20 per cent.
Bus Users UK Northampton branch chairman Mike Barlow, from Daventry, said: “This is the first time the Megarider option has been available in Daventry which is good news.
“If people are prepared to have a look at the daily and weekly options then this can be a good deal.
“The price rises are not so good and might have an impact on how many times people come into town each week. But if people are prepared to get a weekly ticket they can come in and out as many times as they like.”
