A village football club has been backed for the new seasons by housebuilder Taylor Wimpey South Midlands.
Woodford United FC, based in the village of Woodford Halse, received funding from the firm in a sponsorship package covering the club’s ground and programme.
Gareth Jacob, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, said: “As a responsible and community-focused housebuilder, we’re dedicated to supporting the areas where we build.
“Woodford United’s ground in Byfield Road is only about 400 yards from our new Woodford Meadows development, so the tie-up was irresistible.
“We wish our near-neighbours every success for the 2015/16 season, and beyond.”
The sponsorship package means a Taylor Wimpey advert in the club’s match day programme, and the Taylor Wimpey logo on the club website and stationery.
There will also be a pitch perimeter advertising board.
Players and club officials said they were really grateful for the support.
Woodford United FC, nicknamed The Reds, were founded in the village in 1946, and so celebrate their 70th anniversary next year.
The club’s long and successful history was overshadowed by a bad run in 2012 and 2013, when the club lost 65 games in a row between April 2012 and November 2013.
But the club is on the up again now, finishing a more respectable 14th in United Counties League Division One last season.
Also going up, just along the road, is Taylor Wimpey’s Woodford Meadows development, which will offer a selection of homes.
They held a part-exchange event at the football club on Saturday.
