Three Daventry charities are in line to get £2,000 split between them after Daventry Town’s successful FA Cup exploits.
The Purple Army reached the first round of the competition last season narrowly loosing out at then League Two side Chesterfield in November 2013.
The money comes from this season’s Community Shield match between Premier League winners Manchester City and Arsenal, who lifted the FA Cup.
Proceeds from the game are distributed to community-based initiatives and charities around the country.
Revenue from the gate receipts and match programme sales is distributed to the 124 clubs who competed in the FA Cup from the First Round onwards, for them to distribute to charities and projects of their choice.
Daventry Town Football Club will be making an on-pitch presentation of the money before their game versus Rugby Town on Saturday April 18 at 2.30pm.
As a result of reaching the first round, it is the first time the club has been able to nominate local charities in this way.
Daventry Town has nominated Daventry Area Community Transport (DACT), the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) and Daventry Contact who will receive an equal share of the money.
Representatives from all of the three charities will be present at the game to receive their cheques.
Jim Davis, secretary of the football club said: “The WNAA will also be taking the opportunity to collect further donations from an anticipated bumper attendance in this local derby.”
DACT was set up in 1993 to provide community transport for the Daventry district. Daventry Contact helps people in need, especially those in need of furniture, beds, soft furnishings, and food parcels. The WNAA is often the first on the scene helping people who need medical treatment after an accident.
