A Daventry man who drove into a traffic warden after the official told him to move his vehicle out of a taxi bay has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and assault.

Patch Hancox, who lives in a Volkswagen camper van at Lincoln Way, Stefen Hill,
Daventry, admitted to the charges of driving a motor vehicle dangerously and assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared at a plea hearing at Northampton Crown Court on Monday this week. Prosecuting, James McLernon told the court Hancox had become enraged during an incident on September 1 last year when a traffic warden told him to move his van from a taxi-only parking bay on Foundry Place, in Daventry town centre.

Mr McLernon said: “The defendant had parked in a bay exclusively for taxis.

“When the traffic warden approached, the defendant was abusive to him.

“He revved the engine and moved the vehicle forward, making contact with the traffic warden and forcing him backwards.

“When the traffic warden came to the side of the door the defendant then assaulted him.”

Judge Lynn Tayton QC granted Hancox bail and told him to reappear at the same court to be sentenced at a later date.

The judge also imposed an interim driving ban on the 56-year-old.
