COMMISSIONING publicly funded portraits of members of Northamptonshire County Council has been banned after it was revealed the council’s last painting cost more than £3,000.
Last month the county council commissioned a painting of Towcester councillor Rosemary Bromwich, who used to live in Litchborough.
The council has now confirmed the painting, which was commissioned to commemorate Cllr’s Bromwich’s time as chairman of the authority, cost taxpayers £3,180.
The council’s chief executive Paul Blantern has said that in future former chairmen will have to make do with a photograph.
Cllr Bromwich last week announced she will stand down from the council at the end of the year after facing criticism for moving to Cornwall.
