Daventry residents were treated to show-stopping performances from local talent in Bowen Square on Saturday, November 22 at the Christmas Lights Festival.

Bands including Benj & Benji and Breaking Point kicked off the festivities at 3pm to pull in the crowds, while local groups from the Phoenix Centre, Performers Academy, Scorpion Dance Academy and Academy No. 1 also did their bit to entertain party goers.

As well as a number of craft stalls, a magician, a caricaturist doing free paintings and a roast-chestnut seller, a statue of a ‘minion’ from animated movie Despicable Me proved to be a real hit with both the young and the young at heart.

At 4.30pm, civic dignitaries in full regalia, accompanied by colourfully dressed pantomime characters from Northampton’s The Royal & Derngate Theatre and Deco theatres, flicked the switch to eventually turn on the brand new Christmas lights. Deborah Jewell, clerk at Daventry Town Council, said: “The switch on was really well attended by families. The lights are a vast improvement on last year and some of the local bands performing really connected with the crowds. It really showed what local talent we have on offer.”
