Daventry District’s profile as a home for high performance technology has been boosted this week, thanks to a Brixworth-based company’s role in Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 success.
Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains designs and manufactures V6 engines and Energy Recovery Systems for the Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 racing car, which Lewis Hamilton steered to victory in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the weekend achieving his second Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship.
Mercedes also triumphed in the season’s Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championship.
Leader of Daventry District Council, Chris Millar, said: “I’d like to congratulate Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes AMG on this momentous achievement. It’s excellent to see the important role that this local company has played on the world stage of motorsport.
“High performance technology is a thriving industry in our district that’s continuing to grow and we are proud to be home to Mercedes AMG and several other motorsport companies also achieving outstanding results and winning trophies.”
Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains are based at the purpose-built Mercedes-Benz Technology Centre in Brixworth. There, a team of more than 400 people are responsible for the design, manufacture and testing of Formula 1 power units for Mercedes AMG Petronas, McLaren Mercedes, Force India F1 and the Williams F1 team.
