A short film made by a young Daventry film-buff won the Over 16s Public Vote at the annual Film Northants festival on Monday, September 1.

Chris Milner, 18, who lives on Lang Farm, created his comedy short Villainy with Northampton College film students Chris Saunders, Ryan Loebell and Ross Bayes.

The film was among 15 other short listed works , all made within Northamptonshire.

They were screened at Errol Flynn Film house, Northampton, in front of a packed audience.

Villainy follows the inept attempts of Defectus as he attempts join the family business and become a supervillain.

Chris said: “It was a comedy sketch originally that we came up with before and decided to make into a film.”

“We run our own Youtube channel ‘Alwaysfilming’. We have a lot of comedy sketches there.

“We were all really pleased to have won. It was quite clear at the ceremony we were the youngest in the over 16 group. It was very fulfilling knowing we managed to make something just as good as some of the more experienced film makers. It was quite an honour.”

The winners scooped a £150 prize split between them as well as a workshop with an experienced director.

Chris is going on to study digital film making at the University of Northampton where he plans to broaden his experience.

“I think this award has really pushed me to do the course.”

He added: “I’d like to try documentaries and travel the world and film new things.”

Veteran film producer Tony Klinger gave a talk at the competition. He said: “I can see there’s burgeoning film talent in Northamptonshire and its something I wouldn’t associate myself with otherwise.”
