Police in Daventry have teamed up with The Prince’s Trust to help out victims of burglary.
PCSOs Les Conopo and Lorraine Humfress, who cover DIRFT, Crick and Kilsby for the Daventry Rural Safer Community Team, worked on the gardens of two residents of Kilsby with organisers and participants of the Daventry Prince’s Trust.
The officers felt clearing some of the over-grown bushes and hedges would help reduce the risk of further crime and decided to take action.
They joined up with Daventry Prince’s Trust and local businesses to clear the gardens and improve home security both inside and out.
The fire service installed new smoke detectors and Tesco Distribution, DIRFT, supplied food and drink to the volunteers, as well as new garden fencing and gates. A local company also agreed to clear the waste.
PCSO Humfress said: “We have worked on clearing the garden just to make the front of the properties a little bit more visible. The two properties are less hidden and less likely to be targeted.
“Both houses were victims at the same time, one was a burglary, the other was attempted distraction burglary. This is a positive initiative to try to help both these people in the community.
“It is also a great help to the youngsters of The Prince’s Trust because it has given them the opportunity to carry out some community work which they were all fantastic and they have been really willing to do it.”
PCSO Conopo said: “It has been a fantastic result all round. We are all really pleased.”
