Campaigners calling for action over speeding along Ashby Road in Daventry say the situation has got worse in recent months.
They are frustrated by the lack of action over the road, which was identified as ‘dangerous’ by the county council in April last year.
Before the summer break last year children from Falconers Hill Infant School compiled a petition which went to Parliament.
Coleen Wilkins, headteacher at Falconers Hill Infant School in Ashby Road, said: “Since then we’ve heard nothing, and if anything the road has become worse.
“We have more people using it as more homes are built on the northern side of Daventry. We have more cars and pedestrians in the morning now the new college has opened.
“In fact, the college has its own zebra crossing at the bottom of the hill.
“Cars get stopped there and some drivers then speed up the hill without realising there’s another zebra crossing on the brow that you can’t see and which is being used by more children. It has made it more dangerous. There are plans for the new retail area as well – how much extra traffic will that bring down this road?”
Gloria Edward-Davidson, who has campaigned over the road for years, said: “Last year a plan was drawn up for this road to try to get drivers to slow down, but nothing has come of it. Has it been kicked into the long grass?
“I know money is tight, but Daventry is a growing town and that growth is putting pressure on this road.
“That growth also comes with money from developers to improve the town for everyone. Why isn’t some of that money being spent on Ashby Road?”
