A horse rider has been airlifted to hospital after being injured in a fall.

The incident happened on Tuesday, Febraury 18, at a farm near Daventry. An air ambulance was required due to the remote location of the incident. As the closest available service at the time, Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) were tasked to the incident.

The crew landed in a field near to the incident at approximately 10.10am – 16 minutes after leaving their base at East Midlands Airport.

The patient, a 43-year old woman, was sedated and given advanced pain relief. Her leg was put in a traction splint before she was immobilised and airlifted to University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire for further treatment.

DLRAA work in collaboration with sister Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. Between the two services, they carried out 1,680 rescue missions in 2013.

DLRAA say each rescue mission costs approximately £1,700, which is funded entirely by public donations.
