THE search is on for a flag to represent Northamptonshire.

The county council is seeking designs for the new banner from schools, community groups, and individuals which they believe best represents the county.

All entries will be assessed by a panel of judges, including a representative from The Flag Institute in London and a professor in cultural studies, and a final five designs will be put to a public vote.

Chairman of the county council, Joan Kirkbride, said: “Over the past two years here in the UK we’ve had ample opportunities to get out there and wave flags.

“The Parliamentary Flags and Heraldry Committee is now encouraging communities across the country to get involved and register their own flags.

“We think this is a golden opportunity for Northamptonshire to find a flag we can be proud of.”

Among the judges will be Flore’s Johnnie Amos, chairman of the Commonwealth Flag Project.

Entries can be made until January 17. Judging takes place from January 20 to 31, and he shortlist will be put to a public vote from February 24 to April 31, with the winner announced in May.
