Residents in Long Buckby and Overstone and visitors to Daventry Country Park look set to benefit from the latest round of community grants from Daventry District Council.
Community organisations recently given money towards various events and projects include Long Buckby Children’s Recreation Ground Committee, which has received £14,870 to help fund the first phase of redeveloping the recreation ground for the under fives with new play equipment, seating and landscaping.
A grant of £4,680 has also been awarded to the Overstone Village Hall Committee, towards the cost of a replacement roof for the village hall as the current roof leaks and is no longer viable to repair.
The Friends of Daventry Country Park have received £2,700 towards a new bird hide on the water’s edge off Lovell Bay.
Their grant is from Second Homes funding, a pot of money resulting from the reduction of the council tax discount on second homes from 50 per cent to 10 per cent.
Councillor Alan Hills, DDC’s community, culture and leisure portfolio holder, said: “There are many different types of funding available to community groups, whether they’re planning a one-off community event, or improving their facilities.
“Last year the council helped more than 45 groups district-wide through its grants schemes and also supported many of these groups to help them get additional external funding. I would encourage any groups who would like to find out more to get in touch with us.”
