Only eight per cent of voters turned out to the polls on Thursday, July 26.
Electors on the town’s Hill Ward were asked to select a new member of the town council.
The result was:
Keith Simpson (independent) 179 - elected
Zeshan Hussain (Labour) 116
Beverley Rundell (independent) 63.
There were 363 ballots issued, out of a total electorate, meaning turnout was 8.55 per cent.
